As a proud community partner for this year’s Tasveer Film Festival, I’m excited to help spotlight the unique voices of South Asian filmmakers. Now in its 19th year, the festival has become a vital platform for showcasing powerful, underrepresented stories. This year’s lineup includes a range of films, from narrative features to documentaries, all offering diverse perspectives from talented South Asian creators.
Paper Flowers: A Personal Journey of Love, Loss, and Hope
One film featured at this year’s Tasveer Film Festival is Paper Flowers, which follows Shalin Shah, a recent USC graduate who joins the Peace Corps only to be diagnosed with cancer. The film captures his journey, supported by his family and girlfriend, Fiona, as they face life’s challenges together.
Part of the story is set in Peru, a place close to my heart because it’s where I grew up and learned valuable survival skills. (e.g. Ponte mosca)
