I have a confession to make. I don’t use a Mac. I don’t use Windows. I run my entire web design studio on Linux. And I’m convinced it’s my superpower.
This isn’t just about personal preference. It’s a conscious business decision that allows me to deliver better results for my clients. But to understand why, we need to go back to the beginning.
The First Spark
Back in 2005, I was working for American Express at Microsoft’s campus. I was surrounded by the biggest names in tech, but I felt a pull toward something different. I discovered Ubuntu Linux, a free, open-source operating system. It felt like a secret door swinging open to a world of limitless possibilities. No licenses, no gatekeepers, just a community of rebels and innovators. I was hooked.
A Word of Warning
One day, the network admin saw my screen and warned me, “Dude, hide it, we’re at Microsoft!” For a moment, I considered shutting that secret door. I had a good job, why rock the boat? But my curiosity was stronger than my fear. I continued to explore Linux on my own time, learning its secrets and embracing its challenges.
Guided by the Community
I soon discovered that I wasn’t alone on this journey. The open-source community became my mentor. Whenever I hit a roadblock, there were forums, documentation, and real people willing to help. This collaborative spirit was a revelation. It was a stark contrast to the closed, proprietary world I was used to.
Building a Business on Open Source
When I launched Minimo Studio in 2020, there was no question in my mind what my foundation would be. I built my entire business on open-source software. From my design tools to my cloud storage, everything runs on Linux.

There was even a “Mac Mini Curveball” when a client’s all-Apple ecosystem forced me to buy my first Mac. But I don’t use it like most people. It sits on my network, headless—without a monitor, mouse, or keyboard—a tool I access from my Linux machine when needed.
